How and why to create a free MapQuest account

The only way to securely save maps, routes, and recent searches on MapQuest.com is to log in to your MapQuest account each time you come to our website.

You don't need to log in to use the basic features of MapQuest, but you will need to log in to use My Maps features.

If you don't log in you won't be able to save places or routes you create and any recent searches or preferences you set may disappear if your Internet browser's temporary files are cleared, if private browsing is enabled, or if you switch Internet browsers/computers. It doesn't take long to make an account or log in and it's totally worth it!

To create a free MapQuest account:

  1. Visit www.mapquest.com and click Sign up, located in the upper left-hand corner of the page

         

  1. Enter a valid email address and password (you'll want to make sure the strength of your password shows the password indicator at 2+ stars)
  2. Check your email for a message from us - you'll need to click the Verify My Email Address button in the email to confirm your account before logging in

If you prefer, you can use an existing Facebook or Aol account to log into MapQuest - simply click the facebook or Aol. button on the Sign Up screen to create a MapQuest account using your Facebook or Aol credentials.

Please note: You will be able to create a MapQuest account with any valid email address (linking an Aol or Facebook account is not required).

If you see an error or are unable to create an account with the email address you entered, it may already be in use. If you think you may already have an account, try logging in instead using the Log in link in the upper left corner of www.mapquest.com. If you can't remember your password, try the I forgot my password link on the Log in screen.

How to Log in to your MapQuest account

Log in using Facebook

  1. Click Log In, located in the upper left-hand corner of www.mapquest.com
  2. Click the facebook button to log in using an existing Facebook account
  3. Enter your Facebook account credentials in the pop-up login box (if you're already logged into Facebook on the same browser, you should be automatically logged in to MapQuest)

Log in using Aol

  1. Click Log In, located in the upper left-hand corner of www.mapquest.com
  2. Click the Aol. button to log in using an existing Aol account
  3. Enter your Aol account credentials in the pop-up login box

Log in using email

Logging in with your existing Aol or Facebook account is an option, but it's not required. If you've created a MapQuest account using your email address, use the following instructions to log in:

  1. Click Log In, located in the upper left-hand corner of www.mapquest.com
  2. Enter your email address and password

How to manage your MapQuest account

If you want to reset your password, change your username, or link your Facebook account to your MapQuest account, simply:

  1. Head to MapQuest.com and click Log in

         

  1. Once you're logged in, click the Account icon

         

  1. Click under Account Settings

On your Account Settings page, you'll be able to change your first, last, and display name, manage your password, and link or unlink your Facebook account.

How do I change the email address on my account?

If you need to change the email address on your account, you'll need to do that from https://accounts.mapquest.com

  1. Visit https://accounts.mapquest.com and log in to your account
  2. Update the email line to your new email address
  3. Click Save Changes
  4. Next time you log in, you'll use the new email address you set
Please note: You can only have one MapQuest account per email address. You will not be able to change your email address to one that is already associated with a MapQuest account.

How to add Vehicles to your MapQuest Account

Add your vehicle(s) MPG information to your MapQuest Account to let MapQuest calculate the estimated fuel cost for every trip you take! Just enter your vehicle information and we'll do the math.

How to add your vehicle information to your MapQuest Account

  1. Access your Account Settings page here: https://www.mapquest.com/account-manage
  2. Scroll down and click Vehicles (under "Settings")
  3. Click the Add a Vehicle button
  4. Enter a name, the city and highway MPG, range, and preferred fuel type for this vehicle
  5. Click the button next to Default Vehicle to set this as your default*
  6. Click Save

If you'd like to edit or delete a vehicle from your MapQuest Account, simply access your Vehicle settings again (steps above), and click on the Vehicle in your list that you'd like to edit or delete. 

*You can add as many different vehicles to your MapQuest Account as you'd like, but please note that only the one marked as your Default Vehicle will be used to calculate the estimated fuel cost for your routes

How to reset your password

To reset your MapQuest account password, simply:

  1. Head to MapQuest.com and click Log in

         

  1. Click I forgot my password below the email and password boxes
  2. Enter your email address and click Send Password Reset
  3. Check your email for a message from us
  4. Click the link in our email to you and follow the steps to set a new password for your account.
Please note: when choosing a new password, you can't use the same password more than once in a 7-day window. You will also need to be sure the strength indicator is either 2 or more stars.
