MapQuest supports Landscape View on both iOS and Android devices, allowing you to turn your phone horizontally for a wider navigation screen.
Note: Landscape view is only available during active turn-by-turn route navigation. The main map search and route planning screens stay locked in portrait orientation.
How to Switch to Landscape View
Start Active Navigation:
Enter your destination, select your preferred route, and tap Start to initiate live turn-by-turn navigation.
Ensure Device Auto-Rotate Is Turned On:
iPhone (iOS): Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen) and ensure Portrait Orientation Lock is turned OFF (the lock icon with the arrow around it should not be highlighted red).
Android: Open Quick Settings (swipe down twice from the top of your screen) and make sure Auto-rotate is enabled.
Rotate Your Phone:
Turn your phone sideways into a horizontal position while navigation is active. The MapQuest interface will automatically adjust to fit the full width of your screen.
Troubleshooting Landscape View
Screen Won't Rotate: Double-check your phone's system settings to confirm that Auto-Rotate (Android) or Portrait Lock (iOS) isn't locked.
Not in Active Navigation: If you are viewing search results or the main map overview, the screen will remain in portrait mode. Make sure you have tapped Start on a route before rotating your device.
