With Android Auto, you can project MapQuest directly onto your vehicle’s infotainment screen for turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, and hands-free voice search while driving.
Follow these steps to enable MapQuest in your phone and car settings.
Step 1: Requirements & Phone Setup
Before getting started, make sure your Android phone is ready:
Android OS: Android Auto comes pre-installed on Android 10.0 and higher. If you are running Android 9 or earlier, download the Android Auto app from the Google Play Store.
MapQuest App: Download or update to the latest version of MapQuest from the Google Play Store.
Permissions: Ensure Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services are turned on in your phone settings.
Step 2: Add MapQuest to the Android Auto Launcher
To make sure MapQuest appears on your car display, verify that it is enabled in your phone's Android Auto launcher:
Open your phone's Settings.
Go to Connected devices > Connection preferences > Android Auto.
Scroll down to the General or Display section and tap Customize launcher.
Look through the list of available apps and ensure the checkbox next to MapQuest is checked.
(Optional) Drag MapQuest higher up in the list so it appears on your primary home screen in the car.
Step 3: Connect to Your Vehicle
Make sure your car is parked safely (in Park) before completing setup.
Wired Connection (USB Cable)
Turn on your vehicle’s engine and infotainment display.
Plug a compatible USB cable into your car’s designated Android Auto USB port and connect the other end to your phone.
Follow any initial on-screen prompts on both your phone and car display to accept connection permissions.
Wireless Connection
Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone.
On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and pair with your vehicle’s system.
Follow the prompts on your car’s display to authorize the wireless Android Auto session.
Step 4: Open MapQuest on Your Car Display
On your car’s infotainment screen, open the Android Auto main menu/app screen.
Tap the MapQuest icon to launch navigation.
You can now search for destinations, start turn-by-turn voice directions, and manage route options directly from your car screen.
