When updates are made to your MapQuest listing or when an issue is corrected on our end, those changes may not appear immediately on Google or Bing. This delay is normal and is based on how search engines update their own indexes.
How Search Engine Indexing Works
Search engines like Google and Bing use automated systems (“crawlers”) to scan the internet and collect information from millions of pages. They then build an index of what they’ve found and update it over time.
Because this process is fully automated and controlled by the search engine—not MapQuest—the timing of updates is not instant.
How Often Search Engines Refresh Information
Google continuously crawls and updates content.
Most pages are rechecked anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the site.
In some cases, updates may take up to a few weeks if the page is crawled less frequently.
Bing
Bing’s crawl and update cycle is generally slower than Google’s.
Updates may appear anywhere between a few days to several weeks, depending on the page and overall site authority.
Why Updates May Not Show Immediately
Even if MapQuest updates a page or corrects an issue, search engines may:
Not recrawl the page right away
Still display cached (older) information
Temporarily show outdated snippets
Revert to previous content until the next scheduled crawl
This is normal behavior and does not indicate a problem with your MapQuest listing.
Can MapQuest Speed Up the Process?
No. Search engines determine their own crawling schedules.
MapQuest cannot force Google or Bing to:
Refresh their cached version of a page
Update a snippet
Reindex a listing immediately
However, our team structures pages to help search engines accurately interpret and update content over time.
How Long Should You Expect to Wait?
Most updates show within:
Google: 2-6 weeks
Bing: 1–3 weeks (sometimes longer)
