When you're managing a multi-stop trip, sometimes the address isn't enough. Whether it’s a gate code, a specific "back door" delivery instruction, or a reminder to "pick up dry cleaning," adding notes to your stops can keep your trip organized.
Method 1: The Import Method
The most reliable way to ensure every stop has a corresponding note is by using a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel).
Prepare your file: Create a spreadsheet with your addresses. Ensure you have a dedicated column for Notes.
Go to Route Planner: Open the MapQuest Route Planner.
Select Import: Click the Import tab at the top of the input section.
Upload & Map: Upload your file. MapQuest will ask you to match your columns; ensure your "Notes" column is mapped correctly to the Notes (optional) field.
View Route: Once imported, your notes will be attached to each specific stop in your directions list.
Note: Please ensure you are following the Route Planner template that is outlined in the Import CSV/Excel tab.
Method 2: The Copy/Paste Method
If you have a quick list of addresses and notes, you can use the bulk paste feature.
Format your list: In a text editor, list your addresses and notes. It is often most effective to follow a structured format like:
123 Main St, New York, NY, "Door code 123".Paste into MapQuest: On the Route Planner page, select the Copy/Paste tab.
Review: Paste your list and click Get Directions. MapQuest will attempt to parse the extra text as a note for that specific stop.
Method 3: Adding Notes Manually
If you prefer to add stops one by one, you can still include custom notes for each location:
Navigate to the MapQuest Route Planner.
Locate the Add icon: Hover your mouse over the address input field for any stop.
Expand the Notes field: Click the box with the plus sign (+) that appears inside the field.
Enter your details: A new text area will appear directly below the stop where you can type your specific instructions or reminders.
