Google Chrome location troubleshooting

In your Chrome browser, you can easily verify that MapQuest.com has permission to use your location by following these easy steps:

Step 1: Open Chrome Settings

  1. Open Google Chrome on your computer or mobile device.

  2. Click the three dots menu (located in the top-right corner of the browser on desktop or in the bottom-right corner on mobile).

  3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Access Privacy and Security Settings

  1. Scroll down and click Privacy and Security (on mobile, tap Site settings directly).

  2. In the Privacy and Security section, click Site Settings.

Step 3: Locate Location Permissions

  1. Under the Permissions heading, click Location.

  2. A list of websites that have requested access to your location will appear.

Step 4: Review and Manage Location Permissions

  • Allow or Block Location Access for Specific Sites:
    – Locate the site you want to manage from the list.
    – Click the site’s name or the drop-down icon next to it.
    – Choose between Allow, Block, or Clear on Exit.

  • Add a New Site to Allow or Block:
    – Click Add under the "Blocked" or "Allowed" sections.
    – Type the website’s URL.
    – Click Add to save your choice.

Step 5: Adjust Default Location Settings

If you want to change how Chrome handles location requests for all websites:

  1. In the Location settings, toggle the switch next to Ask before accessing (recommended).

  2. Turning this on prompts Chrome to ask for permission whenever a website requests location access.

Troubleshooting

If you’re not seeing location prompts:

  • Ensure location services are enabled on your device.

  • Check your device’s settings for app-level permissions.

Checking permission in Chrome mobile browser

For mobile users, follow these extra steps for precise control:

  1. Open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu.

  2. Tap Settings > Site settings > Location.

  3. Review or adjust permissions just like on the desktop version.
