The app is running slowly or crashing

The MapQuest app processes information every time you route, and saving that data can sometimes cause slow-downs and loading issues. So if that's the case, we recommend closing your app and trying again. 

To completely close your app:

  1. Tap the recent apps (two overlapping rectangles) button at the bottom of your phone
  2. Swipe up or tap on the X to close MapQuest
  3. Re-open the app

That should help, but if it doesn't, please restart your phone and try again! 

 

Can't find my current location

If we're not finding your current location correctly the best first step is to check that Location Services are enabled on your device and that MapQuest has permission to use them.

Most Android devices will allow you to review and manage both the location permissions for your device and for any individual apps by opening your device's Settings and choosing Location. Here, you'll have to choose what kind of Location mode to enable on your device. For MapQuest to work best, you'll want to avoid using "Battery saving" mode, and try using either "High accuracy" or "Device only" mode, which may use cellular/Wi-Fi data or GPS to locate you as accurately as possible. 

Please note: The steps to enable and manage your device's location settings can vary slightly by device, but this Google help article should include location mode instructions for your device and for individual apps on most Androids.

How to disable app notifications

Not a fan of notifications? Don't sweat it. Here are steps to disable them:

  1. Go to your phone's Settings
  2. Tap Sounds and Notifications
  3. Tap App Notification

And from here, you can change your notification settings for our app or any others you have installed.

Having trouble installing the app

Some things don't always go as smooth as we want, and installing our app could be one of those. If you're having trouble downloading our app, we recommend hard resetting your phone and trying again over WiFi. However, if that doesn't work, you can try this:

  1. Go to your phone's App Manager
  2. Tap Google Play Store
  3. Clear Cache/Clear Data
  4. Force Stop the app
  5. Restart your phone!

Once you're done with that do the same for Download Manager. Then, you should be able to install our app!

Can't find my current location (Amazon Fire tablet)

Most Amazon Fire tablets and phones have an option in the device's Settings that allow you to either enable or disable location-based services. If your device has an Applications list in this menu, you'll want to make sure that location services are enabled for MapQuest in addition to enabling them for the device.
