How to Use Draggable Routes
Basic Use
To see basic Draggable Routes functionality in action, do the following:
1. Generate a set of directions from http://www.mapquest.com/. The example below shows a route from Denver, CO, to Breckenridge, CO. 2. Find the route ribbon on the route overview map. 3. Click on the route ribbon and, while holding the mouse button down, drag the route ribbon onto the preferred path. Note: In the example below, the trip was modified to include a stop in Keystone, CO before continuing to Breckenridge. 4. As you drag the route ribbon, you will see potential routes displayed. Each of these potential routes represents what the final route would look like if you released the mouse at that point. 5. When you have made the desired change, release the mouse button to update the route. You will see a small red circle, or Via Point, that appears at that spot. Note: You can hover over the Via Point with your mouse to see available options for editing and getting additional information.
Helpful Hints
Use the following tips to successfully use the Draggable Routes feature.
Zoom In Generally only roads shown at any specific zoom level will be used in route recalculation, but zooming in will allow you to more precisely place Via Points to modify your route and avoid unwanted detours. Be Patient It usually takes a couple seconds to process your request and update your route
Watch "potential routes" While dragging, look carefully at the potential routes shown. Do not let go of the mouse until you see your preferred route path
Do not use "Avoid" options Do not use the Avoid link for a specific maneuver if you intend to modify a route by dragging it. Your choices for Avoid will not be maintained (you will be alerted if this should occur).
